Prevalence of Congenital Birth Defects among Pediatric Patients of Interior Punjab

Objective: To find out the prevalence of congenital birth defects among pediatric patients Sialkot. Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted at pediatrics medicine, surgery and obstetrics ward Khawaja Muhammad Safdar Medical College hospital Sialkot Pregnant women irrespective parity were enrolled in study. Demographic variables, detailed history examination before after delivery noted on a preformed proforma. The data entered analyzed through Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) version 20. p-value less than 0.05 considered as significant. Results: mean age pregnant mothers included 25.45 ± 5.12 most common group affected having more 30 years (58.1%) majority multiparous (52.4%). Cousin marriage factor leading to their children result significant (p-value ≤0.05). defect 14.7%. cleft palate anomaly followed by hydrocephalus, lip, down syndrome, polydactyly, undescended testes, club foot, microcephaly, meningyomyelocele, ambiguous genitalia bradydactyly. Conclusion: 14.7% hydrocephalus syndrome. associated cousin marriages.
